Accolade is pleased to present another refurbishment project completed in the centre of Stafford.

It’s first Phase has been successfully completed and we are soon to begin on the next step of refurbishment.

 

Biography:

 

Stafford Railway Building Society (SRBS) is proud to be a traditional but relevant banking partner to its customers.

It offers straightforward mortgage and savings products, at sensible rates.

That is where they’ve got to today.

But…

Back in 2017, Mike Smith was appointed CEO to a society where there wasn’t enough innovation to balance the traditional values.

He was determined that while SRBS should still protect its established values that customers loved, it was important to embrace new thinking to stay relevant.

 

Challenge:

 

SRBS’s Grade II Listed Building in the picturesque town of Stafford was ripe for modernisation and refurbishment.

The building simply wasn’t practical for running an efficient operation and it didn’t set the right tone with clients and staff.

If Mike prioritised refurbishing the building, it would set the tone and build optimism for other modernisation programs that he had in mind.

Therefore, in his first week, Mike brought Accolade in to suggest how the tired building could be renovated without losing the period features and charm of the Georgian style.

 

Process:

 

Starting from scratch, it took a whole day to survey the listed building, a veritable rabbit warren, to allow the team to produce some solutions.

Within 29 days of our initial meeting with SRBS, a layout, specification and price was agreed for total refurbishment of the premises.

And, Accolade didn’t forget to allow a contingency for the surprises that we expected to find behind 100+ year old plaster.

Starting on site a further two weeks later, Accolade set to work achieve a new look with the following refurbishment elements:

 

  • Demolition and Strip-out
  • Partitioning
  • Ceilings
  • Air-conditioning
  • Complete re-wiring
  • Complete re-plumbing
  • Washrooms
  • Kitchens
  • Flooring
  • Office furniture

Yes, the logistics took careful planning but we were still able to complete the whole refurb, snag-free, within 12 weeks.

During the 12 weeks, the entire team at the bank continued to work smoothly and securely thanks to careful planning which caused minimal disturbance.

For the team at SRBS, a refurbishment with all the ‘mod-cons’ has made it so much warmer in the winter, so much quicker to reach the kitchen and given staff more confidence when meeting a client.

This work is currently being completed in four phases to allow staff to continue working with minimal interference.
